Personal Statement

I am a professional magazine writer, researcher for a prominent political strategist and college professor who also has 10 years of experience tutoring students at all levels - from junior high to doctoral candidates. I have helped students gain admission to highly prestigious schools. I was a consistent scholarship winner in a Ph.D. program in English at Columbia University, graduating top of my class. I also have an excellent rapport with students and adults.

I have more than 15 years experience teaching English, writing, film and literature, and critical thinking on the community college, college, and university level. I was a private coach to research scientists in biotechnology at UCLA Medical School. I am also a magazine writer with more than two dozen publications (specializing in writing about art, interior designers, and entertainers) and researcher for a prominent political strategist.

In addition to tutoring with great success and helping students gain admission to top colleges including Stanford, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, and others, I have more than 4 years' experience coaching students on writing college and graduate school admissions essays. I have also worked with students preparing for the analytical writing section of the Bar exam (with success), and revised/edited Master's essays in political science, psychology, and doctoral dissertations in applied mathematics and physics and classical music. (with success!).

I have been a researcher, editor and writer, contributing to published books (finance, psychology and politics).

Other talents and interests include piano and acting. I was a scholarship student at Juilliard School of Music Preparatory Division and have appeared as a bit role actress on national television.

Tutoring Approach/Experience

Quickly to identify student's area of weakness and focus on that. Modify pace according to response of student. Draft a personal plan for that particular student - which is flexible. Measure results.
