I believe that as a tutor I can relate to middle and high school students because I was one not that long ago! I've finished college and graduate school, but I love a lot of the music, movies, and books that the students I teach are interested in. I am not the stereotypical dry, uninteresting teacher with a droning voice(such as the one in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"!). I feel that this helps me relate to the students I teach so we can meet on similar terms. Then, we can get to work!
Tutoring Approach/Experience
I like to relate the knowledge a student already possesses to what they are learning. When I tutor, I like to discuss why the subject or is important to become more well-rounded and skilled. I like to laugh and enjoy the process - tutoring does not have to be dull and boring! I love giving a variety of examples to help explain different ideas (and I can come up with some interesting ones!). After spending years memorizing German vocabulary, I've also learned how to make rote memorization amusing. I do my best to help my students possess permanent knowledge from what they are learning.
