I grew up in the Pacific Northwest before attending college at the University of Pittsburgh. I graduated with honors in 2001. I decided to pursue graduate degrees in history at the University of Delaware and I completed my Ph.D. in the fall of 2008. I am drawn to teaching because I like to help students achieve their full academic potential. One of my major teaching goals is to help students realize that history does not have to be a dull subject.
Tutoring Approach/Experience
I like to assess a tutoring student's needs before I begin any tutoring program. I look at past homework and tests to see where a student may be falling short in class. Next, I begin with a general overview of the subject matter and encourage the student to engage with the material by making it fun and interesting. Finally, I focus on specific areas for improvement, or specific subjects that require additional instruction. I wrap up my tutoring work by reassessing the student's performance and looking for signs of improvement.
